ADEPT'S ODE

Old-English (17th century) poetry on new music of modern times, with a timeless character. "By an intricate series of coincidences, we ‘discoverd’ that a great deal of old poetry does not only touch absolutely timeless themes in a timeless way, but can also be arranged to modern popular music. Even more so, we found that working with these rather archaic texts - sometimes having to dig up old dictionaries to find the official pronounciation of words gone extinct - gave a thourough understanding of their most essential meaning. These discoveries led to the decision to compose and record a complete album filled with, in this particular case, seventeenth century English poetry."

Joris Holtackers is a composer-pianist,
multi-instrumentalist, arranger, producer and recording-engineer

XX CENTURY
1975: Born and raised in a musical family
1977-1982: Music grew from very early interest to biggest passion
1982-1992: Classical Piano-education
1992-1994: 'Switched' to jazz-pianolessons
1994-1998: Studied @ the music-academy in Utrecht, with Bert van den Brink
and Jasper van 't Hof; participated in masterclasses by Enrico Pieranunzi
1998-1999: Studied (and gratuated for) post-graduate with
Bert van den Brink and John Taylor (in Cologne)

XXI CENTURY
- Composing music in different kinds of genres
- Teaching piano at the ArtEZ conservatory in Zwolle
- Performing as pianist & multi-instrumentalist (classical, jazz, latin, pop, theater, etc.)
- Producing recordings for professional musicians & ensembles, in his own Studio Sonopoly, but also 'on the road'
